Researchers at Universidad de Santiago identify the importance of potassium to combat chronic vascular diseases

  • The study led by Dr Juan Pablo García-Huidobro, researcher at the Cedenna and professor at the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology of Universidad de Santiago, showed that a diet supplemented with potassium improves vasodilator responses mediated by the vascular endothelium.

 

 

Chronic vascular diseases are a growing concern in public health and they affect about 25% of the adult population in the world, including our country. Their prevalence is expected to increase over a 30% by 2025.

  • A security specialist at Universidad de Santiago will be the only representative of Latin America in the UN Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters, which is made up of sixteen international experts on this matters.

 

 

Dr Lucía Dammert, a security specialist at Universidad de Santiago de Chile, will be part of the UN Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters. Early in January 2017, Dr Dammert received an invitation extended by the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon to become part of the Board.

Dr Leonel Rojo, researcher at the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology of Universidad de Santiago de Chile, found that people using antipsychotic drugs for 6 continuous months exponentially developed obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia and cardiovascular diseases.

Artificial intelligence robot to contribute to agriculture in Chile

  • Dr Claudio Urrea, a specialist in robotics, has designed an intelligent device that is able to move autonomously through crops in order to perform different prevention and care tasks. 

 

Destacado académico de la U.de Santiago Dr.Julio Pinto recibe Premio Nacional de Historia

  • His work includes publications in national and international books and journals, in relation to the conformation of the Chilean State, the development of the workers’ popular movement and the social- political crises of the XX century.

 

 

On August 22nd, Dr Julio Pinto Vallejos, professor at Universidad de Santiago de Chile, was awarded the National Prize of History 2016.
