Vriic's Technology Management Department held a meeting between Usach academics and CoreDevX representatives to explore possibilities for cooperation in research and technology transfer. The activity was part of the collaboration agreement signed between this company and our campus.

In order to identify new opportunities for joint work in research and development (R&D) projects, the Directorate of Technological Management (DGT) of the Vice Rector's Office for Research, Innovation and Creation (Vriic) organized a meeting that brought together researchers from the University of Santiago de Chile and executives from the technology company CoreDevX.

The activity was attended by academics Dr. Guillermo Romero, from the Department of Physics; Iver Cristi, from the Faculty of Medical Sciences; Dr. John Kern and Dr. Pablo Román, both from the Faculty of Engineering. CoreDevX was represented by Javier Urrutia, CEO and founder of this company, and Ignacio Meléndez, Innovation and Ecosystem leader. Xaviera Hernández and Marlene Henríquez, DGT technology managers, were also present.

At the beginning of the event, the attendees were greeted by Dr. Alberto Monsalve González, Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation and Creation of the Usach, who encouraged them to “put forward ideas and project a future of joint development”. He also stressed the importance of “working with industry, understanding its challenges and providing solutions from our lines of research”.

After these words, the academics presented the lines of research and projects that are currently underway, highlighting their focus on technological development and the connection with the productive sector. They also discussed with CoreDevX representatives possible collaborations to strengthen these innovations.

Valuable meeting

Both researchers and executives highlighted the opportunity to meet in a context of academic and business networking.

Ignacio Meléndez said that they were able to “learn about the progress of university research in specific projects aligned with our areas, such as quantum simulation and Artificial Intelligence applied to health. This interesting range of initiatives opens the door to a collaborative portfolio that we can develop together and take to the market, either as spin-offs or through technology transfer”.

The academic Iver Cristi, who presented the research lines of the Neuromechanics Laboratory in areas such as advanced signal processing to obtain digital biomarkers, said that after the meeting they were looking for “ potential connections with companies and contacts to discuss ideas with, among other things”.

Another researcher who positively highlighted the meeting was Dr. John Kern, who addressed the R&D projects they are executing, the ties with the mining industry, the advances in TRL and the results. “We hope to foster collaboration with the company, through areas such as advanced sensing, Artificial Intelligence and quantum computation, among others,” said the researcher.

Finally, Marlene Henríquez, DGT Technology Manager, emphasized that the activity was held as part of the collaboration agreement signed between the Usach and CoreDevX. “As the Technology Management Office, we would like to continue promoting these spaces for conversation and joint work, with a view to promoting applied research together with the effective transfer of technologies and developments to our society”, she pointed out.
