The institutional accreditation is a process through which the University publicly guarantees its quality by evaluating the achievement of its purposes and the sustainability of its academic project. The evaluation is carried out by the National Accreditation Commission (CNA, in Spanish), according to the regulations and procedures established by Law 20.129.
Universidad de Santiago de Chile has undergone institutional accreditation processes in three occasions, what reflects its commitment to quality. In 2003, it was accredited for three years and in 2008, it was accredited for six years in the five areas evaluated. In order to renew this certification, Universidad de Santiago carried out a thorough internal evaluation process in 2012 and 2013. Different members of the University community and renowned external figures representing the cultural, professional, social and productive sectors had an active participation during this process, which finished with the submission of the Institution’s Internal Evaluation Report to the CNA in March 2014.
In July 2014, an evaluation committee appointed by the CNA visited Universidad de Santiago. The committee was made up of renowned national and international academics. This committee presented its conclusions in an External Evaluation Report that was sent to the University in August. Then, in September, the University complemented this information with its comments.
The CNA reviewed all this information during its meeting of September 24th, 2014 and decided to accredit Universidad de Santiago de Chile for six years, from October 02nd, 2014 to October 02nd, 2020, in all the areas evaluated in the process: Institutional Management, Undergraduate Teaching, Graduate Teaching, Research, and Outreach and Community Engagement.
This institutional milestone would not have been possible without the support, commitment and dedication of the many people who took part in the internal and external evaluation process. This allowed showing the significant institutional advances in relation to the former accreditation process and the consolidation of our University as one of the best and most complete universities at a national level and also at a Latin American level.
