Dr. Sebastián Pérez was featured as a keynote speaker at "Discs on the Exe," an international conference held at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom during the last week of July. Dr. Pérez is a Department of Physics faculty member at the University of Santiago de Chile, deputy director of the Millennium YEMS Center, and director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Astrophysics and Space Sciences (CIRAS).

The Physics Department benefited from the Medium Scientific and Technological Equipment Competition (Fondequip), thanks to the proposal entitled “Ultrasonic Research Scanner for the generation of 3D volumetric images and the measurement of three-dimensional maps of mechanical properties.”

This important milestone will enable the acquisition of the Vantage 256 NXT, the country's first volumetric ultrasonic research scanner, together with a 1024-element matrix transducer, making it a unique piece of equipment in Chile and of international standard.

The article, titled “Analyzing New Planetary Systems at School: Applications of Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation and Kepler’s Third Law,” presents a teaching sequence designed and implemented in Chile. This sequence uses real data from exoplanets to effectively teach concepts of contemporary astrophysics in classrooms.
